Where we started

Matt and David first worked together in 2012 at a construction tech company Matt founded. Matt ran the business and the customers; David architected the platform. They sold that company in 2020, but kept noticing the same problem on every job site: safety plans that nobody actually follows.

Agentic AI, before it had a name

The answer was not another app. Foremen already have too many. The answer was to meet workers where they already are, on their text messages, and put an AI agent in the loop that asks the right questions, writes the plan, and files it.

That became Nyfty.ai, and we have been shipping it since 2018. It was an AI agent doing real, structured work on a worker's phone years before the industry settled on the word "agentic." We did not wait for the trend. We were already living in it, in production, with real crews on real sites.

What Yakka Labs is

Yakka Labs is the studio those products come from. "Yakka" is Australian for hard work, which is what our products do: unglamorous, important work, done well. Today that means two live products:

• Nyfty.ai — AI safety agents for construction, over SMS, synced to Procore and Autodesk.
• Backlit — hosting for apps built with AI, so anything you make with Claude or ChatGPT can go live on a real link.

We are a tiny team that punches well above its weight. We do not do corporate speak, and we genuinely enjoy what we do.
